In 2008 we went to the polls in record numbers
to vote for change, real change and we won. We elected you Mr.
President and you promised real change in Health Care and real change
for our gay brothers and sisters, but now it seems you are desperately
seeking bipartisanship with Anti Gay and Anti Health Care reform folks
like Senator John Ensign. Mr. President sir you may call this bipartisanship, but many of us see it as a lack of intestinal fortitude.
In 1993 the Chicago Bulls
were playing the Cleveland Cavaliers and Michael Jordan hit a last
second fade away from the right side of the foul line at the buzzer to
win the game and sent the Chicago Bulls to the Eastern Conference
finals for the fifth straight time. We all know what happened after
that. But what if Michael Jordan didn't shoot the ball and held it
hoping for bipartisanship and allowed the clock to run out?
Remember January 1948: When President Truman ended segregation
in the armed forces and the civil service through administrative action
(executive order) rather than through legislation. That was the right
thing to do and it didn't require bipartisanship
support from the racist in Congress, it just took guts. Harry Truman
shot the ball and won. OK, Barack get your pen out and make history
with an executive order to end "Don't Ask Don't Tell" or hold the ball and ask for bipartisanship till the clock runs out, the choice is yours.
Now
let's talk a little about Health Care Mr. President sir. Those of us
that worked our rear ends off to get you elected are not going to sit
idly by and watch you bipartisanship real Health Care reform out of
existence. We thought we had a dog in this fight, but our dog, speaking
of you Mr. President, is turning out to be a big pussy cat willing to
fold at the drop of a right wing neocon, or Blue Dog Democrat hat. It's time for you, Mr. President sir, to take folks like
Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) Senator Maria
Cantwell (D-WA), Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR), Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL),
Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Senator Kay Hagan (D-NC), Senator Kent
Conrad (D-ND) and Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) to the woodshed and tell
them a Health Care Public Option is not negotiable and if they don't
listen, then primary them when they are up for re-election.
Mr.
President the ball is in your hands and the clock is running down. Are
you going to shoot to the ball, or are you going to hold the ball till
the clock runs out? Shoot the ball Mr. President, we need a win.
I wrote the President an open letter that I published on my blogspot asking the President to go ahead and pull the troops out of Iraq. We have had too much "stay the course" politics on the American military occupation of Iraq. It's time to bring the U.S. troops home from Iraq now, and stop losing American troops killed in order to win Republican voters to the Democratic party. We've gone too far trying to please the Republicans, it's time to stand up, and pull the U.S. troops out of Iraq. Kenneth Stepp.
